The Johnny Mercer Foundation has continued their partnership with The Braille Institute Johnny Mercer Music Programs. In 2016-17, Sari Rose Barron brought “Accentuate the Positive” program to the LA and Anaheim choruses and helped students develop their own lyrics which would be set to music by professional composer, Peter Seibert. Their lyrics were developed through thoughtful discussions among the students about the difficulties they encounter in their daily lives due to their visual disabilities. The results were two powerful songs of hope, determination, and perseverance—Do What You Do and Never Give In—set to music by composer Peter Seibert. “The video of Do What You Do beautifully captures the essence of these students and the lyrics they were expressing. I continue to feel honored and touched by the openness of the participants that allow a glimpse into their world. They have endless amounts to offer and say.” – Sari Rose Barron, Program Director of Accentuate the Positive, Los Angeles
